Winter Solstice -December 21
"The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us." - Black Elk
The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year. It is also the time when the sun is reborn. From the darkness of the depth of winter, the sun gains strength each day until its peak at the Summer Solstice. It is through the cycles of the earth that we learn to appreciate and honor the cycles in our own lives and bodies. Both their lessons and their purposes.
Only by allowing and nurturing these natural cycles can we truly be healthy and thrive in this chaotic journey of life. These winter months are vital to our wellbeing. Our bodies need time to rest, replenish, remember and rejoice in the nurturing darkness of this cycle which encourages us to slow down a pace and draw inward. In doing so we can then fully embrace and embody the shining activity of our lives in the next season.
So, I encourage you to find joy and awe for the wisdom of nature and her cycles. To think about what she is teaching you in this season of rest and starlight. How can you tune in to the natural rhythms of this amazing world in which we live with more awareness and purpose? Understand that she is a reflection of you. And remember that we are all connected in this great cosmic game of life and love. We share the same cycles and the same dreams and the same heart.
